Dear All,
In our
weekly news round we came across this innovative and forward looking initiative
to solve the 'excrutiating pain' and despair that young graduating medical
doctors have suffered in almost two decades in our country: after 6-grueling
years of
medical training and examinations. Most end up without
Housemanship jobs and therefore no hope of even temporary registration, talk
less of full registration. Most end up, like the one I met recently doing an
unskilled menial job as a volunteer. Really heart breaking. We are truly
excited at this announcement.
We, from our
centre congratulate the Minister for Health, Professor Isaac Adewole and the
Hon Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ohanire for this wonderful,
career-saving, profession-saving initiative. We await to see the details and
its implementation but there is no doubt that just its announcement elates us.
Congratulations, sirs! Generations of newly qualified medical doctors shall
write your name in Gold.

Minister of
Health, Prof Isaac Adewole
The Federal
Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo
yesterday gave approval for the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to
facilitate the placement of doctors across health institutions in the country.
The Minister
of Health, Isaac Adewole, said the programme, which would kick off by 2018 is
essentially to bring to an end the suffering being faced by young Nigerian
doctors.
“At today’s
meeting, Council considered a memorandum from the Federal Ministry of Health to
centrally coordinate, place and fund the placement of house officers in
accredited health institutions across the country.
“By this
singular act, the suffering of thousands of Nigerian young doctors will be put
to an end,” the Minister said. ‘’
Yet, we ask
when the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) will be reconstituted?
